Made in One Back Room in Hamilton, Missouri

Nancy Halstead, 71. Her husband Frank repaired sewing machines on Davis Street for 41 years while she sewed two rooms away — close enough to see exactly what dust and lint do to a machine that sits out uncovered. 11,642 covers since 1986, one pair of hands, no factory. This is the final run. The state takes the block on September 30th to widen the highway, and there is no second workshop.

"A woman carried her mother's machine in here in the spring of 1986. It had sat in a spare room under nothing at all for eleven years. Frank had it open maybe four minutes before he came out front and shook his head, and she cried at the counter in front of everybody. I went home that Friday, took a quilt top my own mother never finished out of the cedar chest, and cut it up. By Sunday night there was a cover. I gave it to the next woman through the door on Monday morning. These are the last of them."

Why This One

Six Things You Won't Find on a $9 Dust Cover

Every detail below came out of 41 years of watching machines come into a repair shop — and knowing exactly which ones came in dead.

◆ Construction

Genuinely Quilted, Three Layers

A cotton face, a full batting interior and a lining, stitched through as one piece. Run your thumb across it and you feel every row. The padding is part of the structure rather than something glued behind a lining, which is why the cover holds a shape instead of collapsing over the machine like a bedsheet.

◆ The Cut

Closed on Four Sides, All the Way Down

Boxed sides that reach the table rather than a hood that drapes over the top and leaves the base wide open. Most of what settles into a machine comes in from underneath. In Nancy's words: a cover that stops at the shoulders is a hat.

◆ The Pocket

One Place for the Small Things

Lace-trimmed, deep enough for the manual, the pedal cord, a seam ripper and your scissors.

◆ The Handle

A Bound Slot, Not a Cut Hole

Finished like a quilt edge, so it cannot fray. On and off in one motion.

◆ Fit

Checked Against a Real Machine

Every cover is pulled over the machine standing on Frank's workbench before it leaves the shop. If it doesn't sit right, it doesn't go. In the shop they call it the Frank Test, and it is the reason the fit complaints that dominate this category barely exist here.

◆ Longevity

Nothing On It That Can Crack

Vinyl and PVC covers stiffen, crack along the folds and yellow with age, and they hold whatever moisture is in the room against the machine. Cotton has no coating to break down, and it breathes. It doesn't fail on a schedule — it softens, and it can go through a wash when it needs to.

◆ Trade Note

"People bring me a machine that skips stitches and think something broke. Nine times in ten it is packed with lint and household dust, and the ones that come in worst are the ones that sat out in the open in a spare room. I tell every customer the same two things: get it serviced, and put something over it that you'll actually bother to use. It wants to be cotton, not plastic — plastic holds damp against the body — and it wants to come down to the table, or you've done half a job."

Quality Promise

Five Things You Get With Every Cover

Made by Nancy, Start to Finish Every cover is cut, quilted, pocketed and finished by Nancy herself in the back room she has worked in since 1986. No factory, no assembly line, no second pair of hands.
Real Quilted Construction — Three Layers, Batting Inside Cotton face, full batting, lining, stitched through as one piece. It holds its shape on the machine and off it, and it is soft against the finish. No stiffener board, no plastic frame, no foam.
Five Colorways — Cotton, Not Coated Midnight Rose, Cottage Rose, Antique Rose, Evening Garden and Mint Garden. Woven and printed cotton with nothing bonded to the surface, so there is nothing that can crack, peel or go tacky the way vinyl does.
Machine Washable — Which Most of This Category Isn't Thread lint, pet hair and the fine grey dust that settles on everything come straight out in a gentle cold wash. Hang or lay flat to dry. A vinyl cover you can only wipe; this one you can actually clean.
973 Left — Final Run, No Reorders 973 covers remain on the shelf behind the counter. When the state takes the building on September 30th there is no second workshop and no restock. Whatever hasn't sold doesn't go anywhere good.
◇ ◆ ◇

90-Day Money-Back Guarantee

If the cover doesn't sit right on your machine when it arrives — the fit, the weight, the colour, anything at all — send it back within 90 days for a full refund. No questions, no forms. One email to our team is enough. The deadline on the workshop doesn't change this.

◆ A Note From the Back Room

Nancy finishes every cover and checks it on the machine before it ships. Small variations in the quilting lines and in exactly where a rose falls on the front are a normal part of work done by hand — a bloom half an inch off where she meant it is not a fault, it is how you know a person sat down and did it. No two are identical, and that is the point. Each one carries a numbered cloth tag stitched inside the front pocket, written by her. The numbers run to 11,642, and then they stop.

The Final Sale

Message from the Artist:

After years of making things by hand, our workshop is closing. These are the last pieces we'll ever ship. Every item on this page was made slowly, carefully, and with more love than any factory could replicate. Nothing rushed. Nothing outsourced. Just real craft from real hands.

We're proud of every single one. We hope they find good homes.

When they're gone, they're gone — and so are we.

800+ Happy Customers

Excellent 4.9

What Nancy's customers are saying

I have been sewing for almost forty years and I have never once had a cover I actually liked looking at. My daughter took one look at it and asked where I got it so I ordered a second one for her birthday. The quilting is even, the binding is stitched down properly, and the little lace detail on the pocket is a nice touch that I did not expect at this price. Pretty and practical, which is not something I say often. Delivery was quick and it came well packed.

This is my second one, I bought the first for my Singer and liked it enough to get another for the machine at my mother's house. Measure your machine before you order, I almost got the wrong size the first time because mine has the extension table on it. Once I had the right measurements it fit beautifully. It is thick enough that it holds its shape and does not slump down over the sides like the cheap ones do. Package showed up on the porch two days early which never happens around here

My cat Gus thinks my sewing machine is his personal bed, and after the third time I found paw prints all over the top I finally ordered this. It fits my Brother well and the fabric is heavier than I expected, the quilting feels substantial and not flimsy at all. Shipping took about a week which was fine, it came folded in a plastic bag so there were creases but those relaxed out after a day or two. The little pockets on the front hold my seam ripper and my small scissors which is honestly more useful than I thought it would be. My sewing room is nothing fancy, just a folding table in the spare bedroom, and this actually makes that corner look a lot nicer.

My machine lives on the dining room table because I do not have a sewing room, so it is out where everyone sees it. The cover that came in the box was that awful gray plastic thing and I threw it away the same week I bought the machine. This one is so much prettier and I do not feel like I have to put everything away before company comes over. It arrived faster than the estimate said, four days I think. My only note is that it sits a little loose on my machine, not a problem, but if you have a smaller model just be aware
